Appointment of the Mufti and Deputy Mufti — State of Melaka

The following provision explains the mechanism for appointment and the transitional effects relating to the positions of Mufti and Deputy Mufti for the State of Melaka.

Key Provisions

  1. Power of appointment: The Yang di-Pertuan Agong, on the advice of the State Authority and after consultation with the Council, may appoint any person who is qualified and suitable to be the Mufti and Deputy Mufti for the State of Melaka.

  2. Official notification: The appointment of the Mufti and Deputy Mufti shall be published in the Gazette.

  3. Transitional effect: Upon commencement of this section, the persons who were the Mufti and the Deputy Mufti for the State of Melaka immediately before this section took effect shall be deemed to have been appointed under this section as the Mufti and Deputy Mufti for the State of Melaka and shall continue to hold those offices.
